Digital Projects

I was involved in the creation of several digital collections and implementation of The College of Wooster’s Digital Resource Commons when they were using DSpace. The following collections represent some of the work I have done at The College of Wooster.

Farmer Oral History Collection

  • gathered and organized audio files created by students
  • used Audacity to edit the files and convert to MP3
  • created a customized DSpace collection including a metadata template and item record displays
  • input metadata into 12 assigned fields
  • edited transcripts and converted them to PDF
  • batch uploaded files to DSpace

GIS-Based Photographic Archive

  • researched, recommended, and purchased equipment including digital SLRs and GPS units
  • created a customized collection in DSpace including a metadata template and item record displays
  • trained student assistants to upload images and input metadata
  • reviewed and approved items to be added to the collection
  • supervised and reviewed continued work on the project
  • researched, recommended, and purchased equipment
  • gathered and organized image files created by a student
  • harvested metadata from Omeka collection and prepared it for ingest into DSpace
  • created a customized DSpace collection including a metadata template and item record displays
  • photographed additional pieces from The College’s costume collection
  • trained staff to curate collection
Senior Independent Study Collection (Authorized access only)
  • created a customized DSpace collection including a metadata template and item record displays
  • organized files and managed student-created metadata
  • trained student assistants to digitize paper theses and enter metadata
  • reviewed metadata and batch uploaded items to the collection
  • assisted in the creation of a ScreenFlow tutorial for students to upload their own work in the future

Campus Views

  • assisted with the selection images
  • scanned and photographed images
  • used CONTENTdm to convert files to JPEG2000
  • implemented the use of the Art and Architecture Thesaurus for the Subject, Work Type, and Materials and Techniques fields
  • conducted appropriate research for each image
  • input metadata into 34 assigned fields

Visual Study Guide (Only accessible from the Oberlin College network)

  • gathered and organized images scanned by students
  • used CONTENTdm to convert files to JPEG2000
  • implemented the use of the Art and Architecture Thesaurus for the Work Type field
  • trained student assistant to scan additional images and input metadata into 23 assigned fields
  • supervised and reviewed continued work on the project
